Tata Sky is a market leader in Indian DTH sector and now it is planning to expand even further with massive investments as well as great new expansion plans. Tata Sky Ltd plans to pump in more funds and launch new programmes to expand its reach across India, where the DTH customer base is projected to double to four crore by 2012.
In an interview to Hindu business line, Mr Vikram Mehra, Chief Marketing Officer of Tata Sky revealed that currently, Tata Sky has a customer base of 45 lakh, out of two crore DTH subscribers in the country. He also revealed that a team of 70 professionals are currently developing 11 new interactive programmes.
Based on the interview, it appears that Tata Sky is planning to consolidate its presence in “television in education” sector. The teaching methods of Tata Sky have been so popular that at least 873 schools across India are using its products in their classrooms. With the aim of projecting itself as an ‘edutainment' service, Tata Sky is already teaching general knowledge, mathematics, etc to children through an interactive method, Mr Mehra added. For general knowledge, it had tied up with Encyclopaedia Britannica.
Based on the interview, I am quiet excited to know what those 11 new interactive services being currently developed are! Any guesses?
