Be Creative and Socially Relevant: Write stories for Kids!

There’s a story teller in everyone of us. The extent of evolution of our story telling capabilities varies. If you think you are an evolved story teller, Tata Sky gives you a wonderful opportunity to make an impact. Welcome to Actve Stories on Tata Sky.

For the uninitiated, Tata Sky has an interactive service for kids called Actve stories. It’s a television based story book that children can read and listen to at their own pace. It features new stories in English and Hindi everyday from the likes of Panchatantra, Jataka tales and Hitopadesh etc. Its great fun and learning for kids. Apparently, this service is so popular that now it’s available in 6 languages which are English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali and Marathi. Most of these stories aim at holistic moral education, which is delivered in a fun based context. These stories go a long way in inculcating essential values of life in the kid’s inquisitive psyche.

Tata Sky now allows you to be a modern day Aesop and write your own fables for the next generation. Actve stories invites users to send in their stories! They want you to create your most imaginative tale and submit it to Tata Sky. If your story captivates them, they’ll display it for one whole day on Actve Stories along with your name!

Watched Slumdog Millionaire On Showcase Last Weekend!

On a fantastic note that Slumdog Millionaire has won 8 Oscar awards, I would like follow up on my previous blog article, about the movie on Tata Sky Showcase. Once Tata Sky announced that it could be ordered on Showcase for just 25 bucks, I knew I was ordering it. I ordered the movie on Showcase last weekend. All I had to do was to go on the website in my account and click a few links. That’s all! It was as simple and quick.

There are two things that I like about ordering movies on showcase. Actually three. First, watch the movie in a “theater like” environment without the hassle of actually going to one, the other, its economical (this one was for just Rs 25!) and third, it’s so convenient and quick!

Anyway, the movie was good. Quite gripping and entertaining. The movie context is actually quite similar to a “bollywood mainstream” film, however its technically executed really well. No wonder it found global audiences.

I am really happy that Tata Sky made this movie available on Showcase. Else the only option left would have been to wait for the DVD to release or watch a pirated copy (where I am not sure of the quality also I don’t endorse and participate in the piracy phenomenon). As Tata Sky brings more of such latest movies on Showcase, I think the whole Movie On Demand (MOD) will catch on in a big way. The main reason is that you save on money, time and convenience by watching it at the comfort of your home whenever you want. I would recommend that you order movies on showcase too (If you are not already doing so), and you’ll realize what I am talking about.

I am looking forward to the next good movie on Showcase. For this one I would want to say “Thank you Tata Sky” or more appropriately in the context…

Tata Sky …… Jai ho!!!

"Slumdog Millionaire" on Tata Sky DTH This Weekend!

Watch out for one of the great movies of all time, the Oscar favourite “Slumdog millionaire” when it’s aired through Showcase on your Tata Sky Televisions this weekend.

The movie is a tale of a young lad and how his real life experiences double up as his encyclopaedia for answering all the questions in a popular television game show (Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?). The movie is apparently based on the Commonwealth Writers' Prize nominated novel “Q and A” by Vikas Swarup, an Indian diplomat.

Some great performances, excellent direction, edge-of- the seat cinematography and super powerful music in combination is what defines Slumdog Millionnaire technically. Experientially it’s a great story told well. While the movie has irked some sections of the society for certain depictions in the film that expose the dark corridors of reality of life in our country, it never fails to convince you with its honest story telling. The movie unfolds pretty dramatically with every scene shot just right, and every frame sequenced meticulously, to ensure that there isn’t a dull moment in the film (no wonder it has awards and nominations for best cinematography, best adapted screenplay and best original music along with others). I can’t really wait to order it on my Tata Sky!

Slumdog Millionaire is highly acclaimed, named in the top ten lists of a number of newspapers. It won all four of the Golden Globe Awards it was nominated for, including Best Drama Film; five of the six Critics' Choice Awards for which it was nominated; and seven of the eleven BAFTA Awards for which it was nominated, including Best Film. In 2009, the film has also been nominated for ten Academy Awards.

Oscar Nominations!
The film has bagged 10 Oscar nominations at the 81st annual Academy Awards, getting nods for Best Film, Best Adapted Screenplay (Simon Beaufoy), Best Director (Danny Boyle), Best Original Score (A R Rahman), Best Song (Jai Ho and O Saya), Best Sound Editing (Tom Sayers), Best Sound Mixing (Ian Tapp, Richard Pryke and Resul Pookutty), Best Cinematography (Anthony Dod Mantle) and Best Film Editing (Chris Dickens).

The Movie’s on Tata Sky this weekend!
Tata Sky brings this fantastic movie to you this weekend, through Showcase, at only Rs 25 per day! Order the movie on showcase from 20th Feb to 22nd Feb 09 and enjoy both the English and Hindi versions for the day (there are different codes to order for different days...choose the one which suits you)!

P.S.

You could order the movie on showcase through your “My Tata Sky” on the website or even simply through SMS (where you need to send the “Event code” that appears on your Tata Sky Screen when you select the movie of your choice post selecting “Showcase” on your remote).

Sports Viewing gets a different dimension on Tata Sky!

As an avid sports fan, one of the reasons I bought Tata sky plus was that so that I could watch my favorite sports telecasts at home in an uninterrupted and “stadium like” environment (thanks to the fantastic TS AV quality which augurs well with my TV’s AV capabilities as well). Not to mention that I could also record my favorite sporting moments and replay them on demand.

If you are at work, it is unlikely that you are able catch up with your fav sporting events. I am sure all the“9 to 9 jobbers” like me have spent time at the office desks with their ears on the running commentary or sms updates of a match. Well the days have changed and for the better. With Tata Sky Plus, you are able to record the match and watch it later in leisure. This is the proposition they bring on the table and what a proposition it is! I have begun recording Cricket matches as well as formula one, tennis and even WWF matches when I feel really spoilt. The great fun in recording test matches is that TS allows you to forward the most boring moments of a match or rewind the most memorable moments. It’s the sheer power of being in control that gives me a great deal.

While the features mentioned above form one part of the TS sports experience, the other part of it are their sports packages. Tata sky has not included sports packages in their base pack, a good move for non sports fans as they don’t have to pay for something they don’t watch. I think it’s a fair deal. You pay for what you watch. Tata Sky offers a variety of sports packages depending on your “fanatism” for sports.

There is the Sports Gold pack with neo sports and neo cricket for neo watchers. A Sports Platinum pack for more evolved sports fans. Recently, it has introduced an Annual Sports Bonanza pack at 1350 offering all the sports channels. A great proposition for all avid sports fans who do not have to go through the hassle of addons. All the sporting action compiled into a single pack.

So all the sport lovers, get your Tata Sky connection soon (if you’ve not already got it) and enjoy the action, coz there is a lot of sports action lined up in the coming months (not to mention the imminent IPL)!
