Tata Sky Plus offers great new features!

Tata Sky has launched three new features on its premium PVR offering, Tata Sky+, thereby taking its offering to another level altogether!

These features include True Video-on-Demand (TVoD) service, dual access remote recording and the revolutionary auto standby technology to save electricity. The TvoD (True Video-on-Demand) feature has already gone live and has been greatly appreciated by the consumers. TVoD adds around 45 hours of content, including movies, documentaries and sitcoms etc which you can view at leisure. The philosophy behind this service is “watch what you want, whenever you want”. Already some popular content has been made available to the consumers and it is understood that this content will be refreshed regularly.

The dual access mode will be launched by the end of this month. This allows the customer to record the programs through their mobile phones or even on internet. So you don’t even have to been home to record your programs. You can do so from wherever you have internet access.

And the cherry on the pie? These services are available free of cost to all its Tata Sky Plus subscribers. Thus sheer value addition for this PVR offering is simply amazing! I simply can’t wait for the dual remote access. Its just going to make my life a lot easier and you all will the first ones to know.

Tata Sky – Value for Money

I came across at a very interesting article in the recent issue of Business Standard magazine which analyzes Tata Sky’s strategy to attract more customers. With 5 million subscribers in March 2010, Tata Sky now controls almost a quarter of the 20 million strong DTH customer base. However, in communication to Business Standard, Tata Sky explained that it is no longer focused on volumes alone; it wants to focus also on the quality of customers and maximise revenues.

Vikram Kaushik, Tata Sky CEO says and I quote “We will never sacrifice volume share completely for value share. But we believe that a sustainable business model will come from adequate share in value terms and not from volume for volume's sake from them”.

As far as the subscriber numbers are concerned, while Kaushik did not reveal absolute numbers, he said that his average revenue per user (ARPU) is double of its publicly-quoted rival (Dish TV). Tata Sky wants customers who are willing to pay a small premium for more value. It has put in place a segmented strategy with products, services and features aimed at different segments, skewed of course towards the quality-conscious subscriber.

The article is quite revelatory of how Tata Sky is positioning itself in the market and how its plans for the future. To read the complete article, checks out the following link:

Tata Sky Packages: Tata Sky launches the Semi Annual Mega Pack

I am a subscriber to the Annual Mega pack and as a result get to view all the channels and services which Tata Sky offers. I have been propagating the benefits of this pack to everyone. The fact, that you have such a variety of channels to choose from. But many people have raised their legitimate concern about the amount which they need to shell out in a lump sum to subscribe to the mega pack. This is because Mega pack is an annual pack and has to be recharged annually.

Now, Tata Sky has launched a semi annual mega pack. Subscribers can now make a one-time payment of Rs 3,000 & enjoy all the channels & services (except TOPPER) available on Tata Sky in addition to 6 FREE Showcase movies for a period of 6 months.

The channels available on the Semi-Annual Mega Pack include the channels available on South Jumbo Pack + Fun Learning Pack + Lifestyle Gold Pack+ Cosmo Pack + Sports Gold Pack + Sports Platinum Pack + Marathi Pack + All a la carte channels except Topper + 6 Showcase movies.

IPL Cricket on Tata Sky DTH

It is IPL season now and everyone is hooked on to Cricket and TV these days. There is talk about little else other than antics of Yuvraj singh, Andrew Symonds, the glitz as well as the glamorous parties. The whole nation is captivated by the matches between the competing teams. Bringing all the glitz, glamour and action into our drawing rooms is Tata sky.

Like each season, it is indeed a pleasure to watch all the cricketing action on Tata Sky. I am reminded of the Asin ads which Tata Sky brought out last season, in which the wife (“someone who traditionally does not watch cricket”), is clearly so enthralled by Tata Sky that she does not want to answer the doorbell or check if the Iron is burning. But that was last season. This IPL season, Tata Sky has offered Set Max channel free of cost to all its subscribers for the duration of IPL. It is available on channel no 305. Thus, now all Tata Sky subscribers irrespective of whichever package they subscribe to can view IPL action.

An added bonus is the Active Cricket service. Pressing the red button on the Set Max channel brings you to Tata Sky’s Actve Cricket service. It is available throughout the IPL season except when Live matches are on. You can watch the IPL highlights of the matches. They show the repeat telecast of matches throughout the day till the nest match so you don’t have to worry if you miss any. I see availability of Set Max for all subscribers as well as the Actve Cricket service as a great example of Tata Sky’s commitment for enhancing TV viewing experience to its subscribers. It makes watching cricket on Tata Sky and absolute pleasure!

Tata Sky Plus Cold War Ads: An accurate portrayal of Reality

I don’t think any one of you must have missed the new series of ads launched by Tata Sky for it’s PVR Tata Sky Plus. In these series of ads, you can see an ongoing cold war between the couples because of the husband’s refusal to let the wives watch TV serials during telecast of Cricket matches. What follows next is a very humorous portrayal of the cold war between these couples
First in the cold war series of ads is the burnt toast ad, where the husband gets a burnt toast in his office lunchbox, packed by the annoyed wife. In second ad, another couple have a tiff and the wife walks in the elevator leaving the husband behind. In the third, the wife ties to sabotage her husband’s phone conversation with his friend with the sound of the kitchen mixer. All these ads are funny and humorous in their own way. Notice the fact that there is no shouting and arguing between the couples. Just an endearing tiff which perhaps happens in every marriage. Though it is hard not to feel sorry for the poor husbands!

Like the earlier Tata Sky Plus ads, these ads too reflect the deep thinking and perspectives of Tata Sky’s team. To think of these situations which everyone can relate to and then embed you message in them required considerable skill and effort. Plus there is the underlying theme of subtle and sophisticated humour, something which is hard to come across in Indian advertising. The twitterati is already going ga ga over these ads. I am sure you have liked them too.
